Junking In The Bootheel of Missouri

We decided to take a day off yesterday and go junking in the Bootheel of Missouri. As I've said before, we're only a few miles from the Missouri border, so it's a nice day trip for us. Many of you have asked where we go to find so many great buys for our farm. So, I decided to show you. . .

We packed the cooler with a picnic lunch and headed up the Shawnee trail--Missouri Highway 25 North.

First stop. . .
Treasure Seekers Antiques Mall
211 West Main (on Hwy 25)
Bernie, MO 63822
573.293.6500

Linda Murphy has a great eye for antiques and collectibles. Everything from primitives to vintage clothing. I'm always in awe of her wonderful finds in such a small town.

At Dexter, we turned west onto Missouri Highway 60,
and traveled about 18 miles to. . .
 Country Bumpkins Flea Market
106 Red Robin Lane
Poplar Bluff, MO 63901
573.785.3030
countrybumpkins@semo.net
Exit T at Hwy 60

Country Bumpkins is a treat to visit. Quintin and Tammy Marler are the super friendly owners of what I consider more an antique mall than a flea market. It's a step back in time and worth the stop, even if you're not into junking.

Just a block or so over from the Country Bumpkins. . .
 Frontier Antiques and More
Junction Hwy 60 & T
Poplar Bluff, MO
573.686.4841

James and Angie Thurston call this huge warehouse of booth after booth of antiques, furniture, and collectibles as "Your One Stop Flea Market."  I'm so sorry I didn't get more photos to share with you from here. Trust me. It should be on your list of stops. . .

After a yard sale or two, we headed back to Dexter, MO. Along the way we found. . .
 The Cotton Sack
7778 S. Old Highway 60
Between Fisk and Dudley, MO
573.967.2060

Sondra Slusher owns this antique and flea market. You never know what you'll find, but there's always lots of primitives and cotton related items. It's a smaller mall, but oh so nice.

Our last--but not least--stop was. . .
Old Timers Antique Mall
Hwy 60 North Outer Road
Dexter, MO
573-624-8288

We usually end our junking day at the Old Timers--and we allow at least 2 hours to shop. There's over 150 venders of glass, furniture, primitives, linens, military, pottery, vintage clothing--well, there's just "everything."
Mikal Long is manager--a must to meet. He's usually at check-out, so you can't miss him.

All the booths are great, but we found the one below that intrigued me--and helped me decide which direction to go with our keeping room. More about that later. . .
We met Karen Ledure, owner of "Contents", and spoke with her for quite a while. In fact, we spent so much time with her, we didn't get all our shopping done. But, that's ok. We'll have a good excuse for a road trip another day.

So, now you know our secrets. . .
 I'll tell you another. . .
May 24-28, along Missouri Hwy 25 from Kennett to Jackson, the annual 100 mile yard sale will take place. Town after town, house after house, will be one giant yard sale. We are never able to cover it all in 3-4 days.
So, if you want a fun weekend and you love junking, mark your calendar. . .
And visit our Missouri friends in the Delta. . .

I get down that way several times a year but we are always in a hurry to get to where we are going that we never stop.

I will have to plan to take some extra time next trip and get off the interstate for a while. Your post has me excited about exploring the boothill agian.

Wish I had found this post earlier--just went through there last week on my way to Cobblestone Cottage in Saint Charles, MO--my favorite place for colonial and primitive stuff. We did find Back Home Primitives in Essex near Poplar Bluff and loved her stuff! Add her to your list of future stops.
