Winter Gray. . .and White

A hush has settled over the farm today. . .Outside my window it's drizzly and rainy. . .looking more like Winter. . .GRAY skies. . .a GRAY day.

As I began to strip down the last remnants of Summer, I realized that with the time change last weekend we are losing more and more 'light and bright' inside the farmhouse. . .It seemed  GRAY prevailed indoors and out.

And there I lingered. . .When all that was left were the crocks and ironstone and farmhouse cupboards. . .GRAYS and WHITES. . .Something about the starkness and the two together struck a cord in my soul. . .It took me a while to figure it out but then it dawned on me. . .the GRAY of Winter skies. . .the WHITE of glistening snow.

I am not fond of winter at all but I do love the days when snow is on the ground and all is quiet and still. . .
warm and safe inside.

QUIET and STILL and WHITE and GRAY. . .PEACEFUL. . .CALM. . .time to settle into Winter. . .

. . .from my farmhouse to yours. . .

This is beautiful. Love the images. I just got in from a morning walk on this cold, gray November day. I'm getting inspiration to deal with winter in NW Wisconsin from blogs like yours that are showing me lovely and cozy wintertime images. :-)

Ah yes...the gray days are approaching but there is something about them that I crave...even more than a sunny day. Days like that are good for thinking, reading, meditating...being quiet, as you said. Now all that's needed is some good ol' comfort food served up on some of those winter whites of yours :)

You said it perfectly. I love those days. Who painted the picture of your home? It's beautiful. Here's to cozy! I hope you have lots of it this Fall and Winter.

I'm not that fond of winter either. I do enjoy being nicely tucked indoors with views of freshly fallen snow outdoors.

I don't know that I'm fond of winter either. I like Fall... but since the time change this year, not so much. :/ Wet and dreary here.
Your cupboard is a lovely bright spot!

Lovely images - grey and white are such tranquil colours. I rather like winter, it gives time to slow down and rest. There is colour too - all the lights and decorations of the winter festivals and the wonderful sunsets and sunrises that we get in winter. One of my favourite things is to see the stark black outlines of trees against a winter sunset - beautiful.

It has gray all week here. Not much white yet, though it is forecasted this week. This is the time of year to cozy up in the evening with the sewing machine! I do feel a slowing down of the pace of life though, somehow one can not be quite as energetic with this kind of weather. In a way it is a nice break....

Still shining here in Texas but I hear a winter blast is coming early next week so much to do to get ready.

I love the beautiful whites of Winter too Dru! Record warm here, and I am loving it. Still, once Winter hits everything seems so cozy inside. Couldn't bear to not have snow for Christmas, as much as I don't care for the cold. Loved it as a child, but these older bones prefer the heat. lol! As always lovely happenings on your farm!
