"Oh, the weather outside is frightful,
But, the fire is so delightful. . . ."
The first fire of Winter is always exciting. . . .more so this year because it was beginning to look like we might not have the fireplace finished in time for Christmas. . . .
But the Saints were blessing us. . . .The fireplace was finished in 70 degree weather a few days ago. . . .Good thing, too--the temperature plunged this morning--down in the 20s. . . .That may not seem cold to some of you, but for this Southern girl who likes to go barefoot even in winter, it's a bit on the chilly side.
Nothing like a fire to raise my spirits. . . .and to warm my toe-sies. . . .
A perfect setting for the Holidays.
Now, it's time to get out the iron pots--I'll be cooking in the fire soon. . . .My little prim table came out of storage a few days ago--so handy for preparing the foods. . . .
For today, though, I'll be enjoying a cup of tea--
and the warmth of "First Fire". . . .
Sure wish you could join me. . . .
For today, though, I'll be enjoying a cup of tea--
and the warmth of "First Fire". . . .
Sure wish you could join me. . . .
"And, since I have no place to go. . . .
Let it snow. . . .Let it snow. . . .Let it snow"
from my farmhouse to yours. . . .

Everything looks so cozy! Here in Louisiana, we took the same dip in temps. Glad you have your fireplace finished in time!
Sweet warm post.. I had a huge fireplace in my central Illinois farm house then moved to Floria 6 years ago.. boy do I miss it!
Your post gave me warm memories.. Enjoy!
Happy Holidays
Sandy
It is beautiful! You are right, a warm fire in the fireplace is so cozy. Wish I had one to warm my toes at today. We got the same cold front last night.
Oh, I'd love to join you. Not as cold here as there, but it is dreary and 50 degrees. A little girl tal would sure perk things up.
Oh my...the fire looks so warm and cozy!! We had a few snowflakes yesterday...and it is really cold here today.
hugs,
Cindy
I'm off to pour a cup of Christmas tea and sit by my fireplace for a few moments before continuing the work of the day. Thanks for sharing.
Looks so cozy! I know I'd spend way too much time in front of that fire enjoying my day. Some tea and a good book and I'm good.
Farmhouse hugs,
Cindy
The fire in your fireplace really cozies up your room, I'm sure. Loving your little table!!

Your kitchen fireplace looks like a scene from Kings Landing Historical Settlement here in New Brunswick. It is beautiful. That is a crazy drop in temperature there. It was similar in parts of the Maritimes yesterday too - snow to rain and very mild then dropping to freezing. We had snow and freezing rain here and the trees are still iced up. It's dropping into the 20's (-12 celsius) here tonight. Wish I had a fireplace to cozy up to. Blessings, Pamela
Yes Dru, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Nothing quite like a warm fire inside and beautiful snow falling outside. Our snow has already melted away. But it sure was beautiful for a couple of days. Love your fireplace. There's nothing quite like it. We had a real fireplace at our previous home. Our gas one is so nice and easy, but miss the real deal.
Hugs,
Jann
Stay warm! What a beautiful kitchen you have :)
Put a kettle on for two...I'll be right there! We had over 15" of snow this weekend and that fire looks a little like Heaven to me!

You got the fireplace done after all! I can picture it glowing on Christmas morning, while you start the prep for the day's festivities! I didn't think I could love your kitchen any more than I already did.
Oh, Dru, I just love you and your blog. I've evidently missed quite a few of your posts so I've just caught up. I absolutely love the new fire place and how wonderful that you really do cook in it. The smell and the tastes must be fantastic. I can almost picture walking into your farmhouse and seeing the decorations. Believe me pure and simple looks beautiful. That is my motto, as you will see in one of my future posts. Now if only I could live by that literally!..Happy Wednesday..Judy
The fire looks wonderful!
I showed the Great Scot your kitchen photos and he agrees; it's our dream kitchen!
I love your images. Its postcard perfect and more. Great composition and photography.

What a lovely fireplace! Looks so wonderfully cozy!
I would love to join you! Looks so warm & cozy!
Your so lucky to have this amazing working fireplace! My family is all from KY and they had a horrible ice storm 2 years ago. My Dad said every light pole for as far as the eye could see was snapped into and lying on the ground. Many trees large trees were also down. They live in a modern county in Western KY and it took the crews 19 days to get to them and restore power. Much like the other disaster victims in the news, it just doesn't clean up quick. They had a little wood burning stove in the basement that was more for show but functional and they made their meals on it and heated their house with it through the end of Jan and into Feb.

Love your fireplace. I found a vintage square cast iron chicken fryer and thought of your fine collection. Happy Christmas
Stunning fireplace! What a wonderful place to decorate any day of the year.
Thanks for sharing.

I am so happy that you got your fireplace ready! Yes, a fireplace not only warms your toes, but it seems to warm your soul! Comforting and warm, the crackle is calming. Let it snow indeed. You are ready for it, and it all is coming together amazingly!
Bless you,
Susie
I just have to say...I am in love with the cozy atmosphere in your home. And that big ol' fireplace/hearth!
