Farmstyle Christmas from the Past

I didn't want to miss the Creating Christmas Link Party--especially the Farmstyle Christmas Decor at Old Time Farmhouse on December 3rd. . . . I'd hoped that the Men would be finished with the fireplace and all the mess inside by now. . . .hasn't happened. . . .So, I reached back into my stores of past Christmases in photographs here at the farm to share instead. . . .

They're timeless. . . .Definitely farm style. . . .And, I hope you find them warm and homey (is that a word?). . . .

One year, Santa hung his red undies at the fireplace to dry. . . .getting ready for his long night of work on Christmas Eve. . . .

We made sure each farm animal had their own stocking
hanging on the line. . . .

The birds got into the spirit with wreaths on their cozy little houses. . .

And, the Her Crows came up with a cute idea. . . .

John and I centered our Christmas at the open hearth. . . .We dress in a period style every Christmas--sometimes 18th century--sometimes 19th or 20th. . . .One thing doesn't change. . . .We always cook our Christmas dinner in the open fire. . . .often beginning on Christmas Eve. . . .depends on the menu.

Here's just a few of the dishes we cooked. . . .Irish soda bread, ham and smoked turkey, squash dressing, turnip greens, cranberry sauce. . . .for dessert there's coconut cake, Great Grandmother's bourbon fruit cake, Granny's ambrosia, and oatmeal cookies. . . .This wasn't all the dishes we cooked. . . .there were many  more. . . .

Everyone in the family was invited. . . .just had to show up early and help cook. . . .

By the end of the day, with our tummies full, some of us were ready for a nap. . . .

Old-fashioned. . . .full of family traditions. . . .country foods. . . .
and lots of fun. . . . a Farmstyle Christmas from our past. . . .

I'll definitely be sharing this post Monday morning with

Hope to see you there. . . .

from my farmhouse to yours. . . .

What a wonderful post. All of the Christmasing looks wonderful and you're as cute as a button. Not to mention, you must be a great cook too! My grandmother used to cook over a fireplace like that. Well, I wasn't born, but my mother told me! :)
Be a sweetie,
