It was a dreary, gray day yesterday. . . .John was at work. . . .
and, I had the task of cleaning the bathroom. . . .It was feeling dreary inside, too. . . .until. . . .
I noticed the stack of Farmhouse Finds from last weekend. . . .
I decided to "play" with them and cheer up my day. . . .
You should recognize a few. . . .the little crockery pitcher and the English ironstone dish. . . .
The blue Mason jar. . . .Some Ivory soap in the ironstone. . . .
Grandmother's bath always smelled of Ivory soap. . . .
It's the only brand--other than Camay--that she'd use. . . .
Several years ago, because of allergies, I began using Ivory soap. . . .
Now, our bath is filled with it's fragrance. . . .a comforting, good thing. . . .
I didn't show you the enamelware bowl and pitcher I purchased. . . .
It came from a convent. . . .yes, I'm serious. . . .
They were up-grading their rooms and had a huge yard sale to sell all the "old" things. . . .
I could have gone buying wild, but I settled for the bowl and pitcher. . . .
It's perfect for the high chest. . . .
An old glass bottle and more ironstone. . . .the cloth-like roses. . . .
were also among last weekend's finds. . . .
That's my Mom on the left. . . .I absolutely love this photo of her, taken ca 1932. . . .
Her entire life, if she put her hands on her hips like that, you were in trouble. . . .
I smile every time I look at it. . . .
I put together a little vignette to enjoy as I relax in the tub. . . .
more roses. . . .an enamelware dish pan. . . .
a cotton laundry bag. . . .
and, on the shelf above, I placed Aunt Pearl's pincushion,
Grandmother's salt shaker and hat pins,
and a mirror. . . .along with the blue jars. . . .
The little white dress was from a different junkin" adventure. . . .
but I thought it was so sweet on the ladder, along with. . . .
a couple of vintage laundry bags. . . .
A few more memories at the dresser sink. . . .Mom's first pair of glasses. . . .
She began wearing them when she was only three years old. . . .They are so tiny. . . .
I've never seen another pair as small. . . .
I treasure them. . . .
More ironstone. . . .a rose. . . .a blue jar. . . .
One of the enamelware bowls from last weekend on the opposite side. . . .
I actually sat it there to take out of the room,
but decided it brought a touch of farmhouse to the vignette. . . .
that's my elbow in the mirror. . . .if you noticed, just disregard it. . . .haha
I decided to move the soap dish for now. . . .
Boo (another feline friend) decided he wanted to lick it. . . .
I don't think he liked it at all, but he'd never admit that to me. . . .
That's one of my Dad's photos--a "washing" on the line in front of a row of shotgun houses. . . .
He photographed them in 1994. . . .Not much had changed from the early 20th century. . . .
Last, but essential, a crocheted doily in a chippy, rusty enamel pan
to hold the "fanny ribbon". . . .
Well, a dreary morning turned into a happy and satisfying day. . . .I have more ideas for the bath that will come later. . . simplifying the room more. . . .I call this a romantic farmhouse style--which has been my style for many years. . . .but now I'm learning that I'm ready for a simpler look that compliments the kitchen/keeping rooms we're working on. . . .til I switch things around again. . . .
I'll enjoy the result of my Farmhouse Finds here. . . .
beats having to move them around until the kitchen is finished. . . .
It's such a lazy Saturday afternoon--I think a bubble bath would be nice. . . .
Sure hope the sun is shining on YOUR weekend. . . .
from my farmhouse to yours. . . .

Everything looks farmtastic, Dru! And your tub is out in the middle of the room?!? How cool is that!!!
Farmhouse hugs,

I love your bathroom and all your wonderful treasures! I must confess, however, it's the elbow that really makes it for me. ;-)
Such sweet vintage treasures for your bath. Love the Ivory soap as well, It just says "clean". I'm a new follower today and I am feeling right at home in your farmhouse! I would love for you to stop by sometime and enter my "Paris Mondays" monthly giveaway or just to say hi! xo's Pam
Dru...I love the style you have in the bathroom...it is so pretty!! We have something in common...I've been told by others that my style is romantic farmhouse and I've been trying to have a more simple style in my home too.
Hope you are having a great weekend.

Beautiful bath!
Is this the farmhouse equivalent of whistling while you work? What a joy it would be to soak in that tub and enjoy the view of all your treasures. Great reminder to make the most of the moments. There can be something good in there even when drudgery is involved.

I'm not much of a bathtub person, but I sure could change my tune if I had a tub like that one!!!!! Great job all around.
It is like you know exactly how to make my heart go pitter patter. Oh how cozy and warm feeling. Now...I have this very same tub in my master bath, and you really have me wanting to re-do the whole room! I'm going back thru this post to look at the pics again to see what I can come up with :)
What a beautiful farmhouse bathroom that you have! All the details are just gorgeous! Loved this tour.
Your bathroom looks so pretty with all your treasures. My bathroom is so tiny that I can't do much with it.

i love what you did to the bathroom and that picture of your mom with the story of her hands on her hips made me smile....

Geeze Dru! I just love your house and decorating style! It is what I wish mine looked like! I love every time I get to look at your wonderful photos. All the history of your family that you out into all the little corners is just so sweet.

Dru, we had a rainy weekend. I should have stayed home and tweaked a little like you. Instead I went galavanting Fri. and Sat. with my cousin. Did manage to find a few vintage treasures. I love all of your new finds displayed in your lovely bath. I have used ivory soap for years. Such a clean fresh smell. I have a glass jar full of it in the upstairs bath. The heirloom things that you have are so precious!
Hugs,
Jann

I love the stories as much as I love your room.
"Fanny ribbon" is hilarious! I have never heard that before.
I LOVE this bathroom. I would LOVE to take a bubble bath there myself. That tub is fabulous. That tall chest is wonderful and decorated perfectly. I LOVE the picture of the laundry on the line. I think I love it all!
Love how you incorporated everything into your bathroom. It all looks so natural like it's always been there.
Cindy
Your vintage things are really lovely. Great finds, and I remember Ivory soap. Does it still float?
I remember the old advertisement..99 and 44/100% pure...it floats.

I love what you have created. So inviting. As a real estate broker I see the "same old, same old" in house after house. Sometimes I think there is no individuality left in our culture! Your bath is so darling. Love that enamelware pitcher/bowl. A treasure.
Your bathroom is beautiful!
You have created the perfect farmhouse bathroom, Dru! What a wonderful place to take a nice long Calgon bath!!! The sweet memories you've sprinkled around in that quaint room makes it so special. :)
xoxo laurie
