Mirror, Mirror

"Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall,
Who's the Fairest One of All?"

Remember that old rhyme?

How excited I was when I spotted the vintage mirror at a Missouri antique mall. . . .
The owner of the booth happened to be there,
apologizing repeatedly for all the flaws in it.
I told her not to worry. . . .it's the flaws I love. . . .
She had a hard time understanding. . . .
ended up almost giving it to me because I loved it!
She was certain it had found a good home.

The wrinkles and age spots mattered not to me.
Shabby, charming, defying time. . . .
I think it's previous owner couldn't see beyond the worn, stained frame
to the possibilities at hand.
With a little cleaning and a quick whitewash,
the character of this vintage piece began to shine through.
After painting the Cottage Glass Cabinet earlier in the week, I knew exactly where I wanted the mirror to hang so that the cabinet would be beautifully reflected.

Inspired by Angie's style at Knick of Time
a few old postcards and a leaf out of a gospel songbook seemed to be in order. . . .

I dressed the opposite side with strands of pearls and Aunt Mamie's 1950s brooch. . . .

This old worn, cast-aside lady still had life in her. . . .
Throughout her transformation that silly little rhyme
kept going round and round in my head.

Once I finished, I spoke to her out loud. . . .

"Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall,
You're the Fairest One of All!"

You know. . . .I think I heard her giggle. . . .

. . .from my farmhouse to yours. . .

What a terrific find, and I agree the flaws are what makes it perfect. Happy Valentine's Day!!

Oh, yes, the flaws are what endear it to us! You've given it new life, but not made it look new--thank goodness! It's just beautiful and reflecting the cabinet in its refurbished paint job was inspired.

Thank you for following me!

Gorgeous!
I love old mirrors.
Off topic but I was reading thru some of your older posts the other day and never realized before your so close to me.
You were talking about an antique shop in Poplar Bluff. I live about 2 hours away from there. About an hour away from Cape.
One day I'm planning on hitting all the shops you talked about. Sounds like a great day trip for me and Brett.

Happy Valentine's Day, my dear friend!
Oh...What a beautiful and sentimental post. There is such a sweetness that comes from finding a treasure that just needed a little bit of love. You have given your "new" mirror a place of honor and stately grandeur. She's a beauty!
Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful post.
Blessings and Happy Valentine's Day, Dru!

She is gorgeous with all her distressed wrinkles and gray hairs... wish I aged as beautifully as her! Love the addition of Auntie's brooch and the draped pearls, a rather relaxed regal. And a good lesson learned from Knick Of Time with the postcard and sheet music... pieces of the past. It could not be any prettier!
Happy Valentines Day!

I missed this beauty while I was fighting with my computer last week. Lovely. I never get my mirrors to have a great vignette in the reflection.
