Farmhouse Chic Slipcovers

I've had these slipcover ideas in a folder for years.

It's also been years since I've seen them.

I ran across the magazine tear-outs while cleaning out files--

and have fallen in love with them--again.

I'm calling them Farmhouse Chic. . .I have no idea what the original title was. . . .nor do I know which magazine they were featured in. . . .
probably Country Living, but I'm just guessing.

Another thing I don't have are the written instructions. . . .

It won't be hard to figure it out. . . .with a little experimenting. . . .

and the right chair, it should be fairly simple, I think. . . .

I still have that huge stack of embroidered linens I've been playing with. . . .

haven't finished those projects, yet. . . .and here I am planning another one!

Summer covers for the Windsor chairs would be nice. . . .

Projects like this, I miss my Mom. . . .

Together we'd have these sewn up and on the chairs in no time. . . .

I do have several sewing machines, if anyone would like to help. . . .

Stitched up in more neutral fabrics, 

they would be charming additions to our Plain and Simple Farmhouse Style. . . .

AND provide an easy seasonal change for any room in the house.

I'll keep the idea on my list of possibilities for now. . . .

I definitely won't file it away again. . . .

Good Morning Everyone!
Spring is in the air, isn't it?

Nothing says "country" or "farmhouse"
better than a pretty bibbed apron
in Spring colors.
And, I have the perfect model to wear them. . .

Meet Millie. . . .She's the new kid on the block. . . .
or I should say, on the farm.
I found Millie orphaned in the corner of a really, really junky flea market.
She was begging me to take her home.
Didn't have to twist my arm much, once I saw the price tag. . . .
$8.00

I named her Millie because she's thoroughly modern. . . .
(as in the movie "Thoroughly Modern Millie" set in the 1920s).

Dressing her in farmhouse style was easy.
I simply visited my stash of vintage embroidered aprons
and chose a couple for her to wear.

She thought they were both charming. . . .

Millie seems to like it in the farmhouse kitchen. . .

It would be nice if she'd actually help a little
with the cooking--or dish washing,
but all she wants to do is stand there and look pretty. . . .
She doesn't want to dirty her lovely Spring aprons, I suppose.
Hmmm. . . . .
Maybe if I stand her in front of the sink,
she'll get the idea. . . .

Spring Chickens and Daffodils

When I was a little girl. . . .around this time every year. . .my Grandmother Magers received a huge box of baby chicks in the mail. . .all yellow and fluffy. . . .

The weather was still too cold for the babies to be outdoors, so Grandmother fixed a place for them in the heating room--where the huge old furnace was located. . . .It kept them warm and happy. . . .

The minute I opened the back door, I'd know she'd gotten a shipment of chicks. . . .

Cheep, Cheep, Cheep. . . .They were never quiet. . . .I was just as relentless with my begging to play with them. . . .

Spring never arrives that I don't remember Grandmother's baby chicks. . . .

I remember. . . .

Yellow chicks and yellow daffodils. . . .

Grandmother's yard was filled with  hundreds of those bright yellow "teacups"--my childhood word for daffodils. . . .They were scattered everywhere. . . .in garden beds. . . .under trees. . . .along fence lines. . . . Many of the same bulbs that now bring rays of sunshine to our farm. . . .They're the first sign that Spring has arrived once more. . . .telling us that Winter is over. . . .

There's still a chill in the air. . . .but that doesn't fool a Farmer's Daughter.

The sun is shining brighter each day--warming our rich Delta soil. . . .We've seen baby rabbits in our garden and birds building nests in cubbyholes. . . .Daffodils are blooming. . . .Trees are budding. . . .Shoots of green are beginning to pierce the ground all around.

After a long winter's nap, Spring is waking up and stretching in the sun. . . .

The calendar says it's seven more days til Spring. . . .

but with yellow chicks and yellow daffodils 

bringing sunshine to my kitchen,

 TODAY I say. . .

There's a Corner in the Kitchen. . . .

A Farmhouse Good Morning to You All. . .

There's a corner in my kitchen that I've overlooked for quite some time now.

Never seemed able to come up with a satisfying combination.

I sat a bowl and pitcher there for years.

Pretty but not that functional. . . .

Felt it needed more above on the vintage shelf.

I was hearing a few complaints here there about having 

to walk "so far" to the dinner plates, stored in the pie safe--

only about eight feet away.

Not enough complaints to do anything about it,

til this morning as I unloaded the dish drainer 

and was making several trips to that cabinet eight feet away. . .

It CAN wear you out a little. . . 

On my last pass, I stopped in mid-track--at the corner cabinet-- and thought,

"Okay. . . .So I'll leave a few plates here."

Well, one thing led to another and I ended up with a little serving area--

closer to the kitchen and convenient.

Once I filled the corner cabinet top, 

I knew what needed to go on the shelf above. . . .

finally. . . .

after all these years. . . .

It all came together quickly. . . .

I added my recent 50c pitcher find. . . .

and a 25c linen towel.

Such a beautiful crocheted border. . .

Now that corner is pretty and functional--

no more fussing about the eight foot walk either. . .

Just goes to show you that in any room,

a little tweaking can always be done. . .

Good Morning, Everyone!

Hope you're having a wonderful weekend. . . .

Mine has been fairly frustrating.

As I began reading your comments at the latest posts,

I realized there were many more comments than I had email notifications!

There were over 300 comments thrown out as SPAM during the month of February!

So, here's the deal. . . .

First of all, I'm so sorry I didn't notice this problem before.

With the number of emails I receive each day,

I missed it.

I like to reply to your comments whenever possible. 

Afterall, you take the time to let me know your thoughts.

I consider it an honor.

 I'm sorry, too, if I didn't reply to you personally when you commented last month.

I think I have the problem taken care of.

My worry is that some of you began following that I missed your comment.

If this is true of you, would you please leave a comment below 

that you'd like me to follow you, too,

and I will visit your blog as soon as possible.

I do try to visit all new followers blogs, but sometimes it takes time. . . .

and sometimes I don't know you're there!

Don't know why but new followers are often placed in the middle of the list.

Honestly--

don't you think sometimes old ways are best?
