Love My Mum (s)

I do love my Mum. . . .
my mums. . . .
and, my John,
who came home one day last week with these beautiful Fall flowers. . . .

I knew exactly where to put them--in vintage galvanized buckets--on the keeping room table--
with nothing else--simple, casual, and fun. . . .

When our thoughts turn to falling leaves and harvest, mums seem to be the most popular flower of the season. . . .No wonder so many bloggers say, "Mum's the word.". . . . It truly is the word for Fall
There's so many colors to choose from--yellow, red, purple, pink, bronze, and orange--to name a few.
By far, my favorite colors are red and yellow. . . .

According to P. Allen Smith, mums were first grown as flowering herbs
by the Chinese as early as the 15th century B.C.
I didn't know they were once considered herbs. . . .did you?

They're so hardy and easily maintained, even I can't kill them. . . .
I think I've told you before that I have no green thumb. That's one talent I didn't inherit.
But, when it comes to mums, I never hesitate to buy several plants each year and add them to my Fall gardens for big bursts of color. . . .

  2. They look lovely on your table. Didn't know that mums were considered herbs. Yellow mums are my favorite and I'll be buying 2 plants this week to put in galvanized buckets (smile) on the front porch.
