The Shabby Bath: Accessorizing the Dresser Sink


It's feeling so good to get the cabinets cleared out (see: Simplify). . . .I'm cleaning as I go so that everything shines and sparkles. . . . It's been inspiring. . . .and, I've fallen in love with glass again. . . .




During our initial renovation of the bath, we fitted a sink into this old dresser. . . . I made it shabby with first a coat of powder blue to match the sink, followed by white. . . Then I sanded it in areas where there would have been the most wear, allowing some of the layers to be exposed. . .Next came non-yellowing polyurethane to protect the surface from water. . .Glass knobs were attached to the drawers. . .


For added interest--and because I'm sentimental--I decoupaged a vintage envelope and a 1938 calendar page on the dresser top--both found in some of Granddaddy's papers. 


And, there's more sentimentality today--it's the day my Mom was born. . . .
As I had her in my thoughts and memories, I decided to create vignettes on the dresser top that she might have fashioned in her own home. . .She loved anything that sparkled--chandeliers, silver, cut glass. . . .

I've changed the accessories on the dresser top many times in the last few years but never were they so elegant. . .

    Wonderful bathroom vignettes. The dresser is perfect for the sink. I loved the dresser reflection in the etched mirror. Love the beadboard! Great bathroom! And beautiful Mom!

    Just beautiful. Luv the use of the dresser as a vanity ( did the same thing over Mother's day weekend. A long dresser turned into a double vessel sink vanity in the master bath)

    Your dresser with the sink in the top is gorgeous. Especially with all the pretties.
    I think the envelope and the calendar decoupaged to the top is such a neat idea. I wouldn't have thought of that one.

    A great cleaning job, with everything squeaky clean and sparkling. Love the way you tart up the bird's nest and the blue butterfly hanging down from your wall lamp.

Your bathroom vignettes are beautiful. I often think of my Mom when I do something. She would be so happy to read my blog, she ate, breathed and slept 'decorating'.     Beautiful vignette, you had me with the bird and nest! My mom also loved glass, and being the only daughter, she left it all to me. :) I have three cabinets filled, and need to clean and dust. (How did that get in there?)Your glass knobs look like the ones that were on her buffet. Oh, and thanks for stopping by my blog!
