Farmhouse Chic Slipcovers

I've had these slipcover ideas in a folder for years.
It's also been years since I've seen them.
I ran across the magazine tear-outs while cleaning out files--
and have fallen in love with them--again.

I'm calling them Farmhouse Chic. . .I have no idea what the original title was. . . .nor do I know which magazine they were featured in. . . .
probably Country Living, but I'm just guessing.

Another thing I don't have are the written instructions. . . .

It won't be hard to figure it out. . . .with a little experimenting. . . .
and the right chair, it should be fairly simple, I think. . . .

I still have that huge stack of embroidered linens I've been playing with. . . .
haven't finished those projects, yet. . . .and here I am planning another one!

Summer covers for the Windsor chairs would be nice. . . .
Projects like this, I miss my Mom. . . .
Together we'd have these sewn up and on the chairs in no time. . . .

I do have several sewing machines, if anyone would like to help. . . .

Stitched up in more neutral fabrics,
they would be charming additions to our Plain and Simple Farmhouse Style. . . .
AND provide an easy seasonal change for any room in the house.

I'll keep the idea on my list of possibilities for now. . . .
I definitely won't file it away again. . . .

. . .from my farmhouse to yours. . .

  6. I'm not brave enough to tackle chair covers or anything near to upholstery. I'd sure like to neutralize the sofa and loveseat in my house, though. Would make a change of decor so much easier. And, to have them made (provided I can find someone to do it) would cost an arm and a leg.

  7. I saved that same picture and I'm pretty sure it was in Country Living, because I went thru all my old issues and saved all kinds of ideas for future projects.

  15. love the chair covers!!

and yes, it is pretty easy to figure out. I have done covers for 2 different kinds of chairs.

The one I love the most was for those white plastic lawn chairs.

I did the first one up out of old white sheets, to make a pattern...

have fun!! with all your projects.

  16. Darling, darling, darling Dru! I have wanted to make some slip covers for my two extra kitchen chairs. I bought different end chairs so one is at my desk and one under my chalk board. I would need to keep the fabric simple, like drop cloth. I adore these but too much going on in my family room and kitchen. Can't wait to see what you conjur up! Wish I was there for the two of us to work together. My mom was an excellent seamstress. I miss her talent and smile!
    hugs,

  21. Oh, Dru! What dreamy slipcovers. I love all the charming detail. Buttons, fringe, ribbon...so many special touches....!!
We were given four very ugly but extremely sturdy chairs to go around our recently acquired round oak kitchen table. I am mentally doodling as to what I want to do with them to improve their look.
Your slipcovers are a delightful possibility.
thank you for sharing, my friend.

  33. Oh I absolutely adore that first image. It brings back a lot of memories for me from my childhood and it has inspired me to do a little sewing with some fabric that I have lying around. I hope you don't mind but I pinned it and plan on using your image in a post for tomorrow. I have sourced it back to you and your blog.
    Have a great Sunday.

  36. Your fabrics are so beautiful. It's easy to make a pattern from an old sheet bought from GW. Place an approximate sized piece of fabric on each surface and pin them together as you go. Trim seam allowance to 1/2" and unpin. Voila! You have a pattern!

I have vintage 40s tablecloths for this purpose but can't bring myself to cut them. I have really enjoyed your blog. I hope you will visit us.
