About Vintage Aprons

Do you love aprons as much as I do?
I've lost count of how many I have in my collection.
Recently, I've been trying to gather them all together
and store them according to decades.
To be accurate, I began doing a little research online. . .

Well, I've found a delightful blog
that is all about vintage aprons--and more. . .
Apron History is a mix of antique finds, vintage cookbooks, recipes, sewing,
and, of course, APRONS. . . .

Heide describes herself as, ". . .a creative, vintage crazy girl. . . I like to do things like they did 'in the good ole days'; sewing aprons, knitting sweaters, using vintage egg beaters, cooking from my 1930s cookbook. . ."

I think Heide and I are kindred spirits. . .
She'd fit right in here at the farm. . .
It's been fun reading her entire blog, getting to know her and the wonderful women in her family that she often features. . .

But, don't let all the extras I've mentioned throw you off the main subject of her blog. The focal point of Apron History IS APRONS--
the ones she collects and the ones she makes, as well as a wonderful reference section. . .that includes examples of apron patterns,
drawings and advertisements from 1300-1960. . .
Here are just a few:

 1900s ********************************** 1910s

1920s ************************************  1930s

 1940s *********************************** 1950s

You'll also find tutorials and free patterns. . .
Like this one. . .
This has to be the smallest apron of all. . . And, so cute. . .

I could go on and on. . .but why don't you see for yourself. . .
visit Heide at Apron History . . .I think you'll enjoy your time there. . .and tell her
The Farmer's Daughter sent ya. . .

One day soon (I hope), I'll share some of my apron collection with you. . .

  3. Thank you for featuring my blog, Dru!! I love your post.
We might possibly be kindred spirits! Even though currently I live in the middle of a city, farming and country run deep in my blood.

  4. How neat. Mama wore an apron every day of her life. Put here clothes on and then the apron. I don't wear them because I can't seem to find one that's comfortable. Sure would save some grease spots on the shirts, though.

  5. Hi Dru, oh I love aprons too! Would love to see some of your collection. Seeing aprons through the years was so much fun. I am going to hop over and visit her. I have one of those little dish soap aprons. Have had it for years. Guess I need to pull it out and use it again.
    Hugs,

  8. Yes, please do show us your collection. I'd love to see it. Heide also has some of those wonderfully colorful aluminum cups in her cupboard... visible in that one picture. My neighbor had those growing up and we loved those. Hate to get off topic, but can I help it if she left the cups where I could see them:) Many of those aprons just bring back such great memories of my childhood back when the older women in my life always seemed to have aprons like some of these on.

  11. Aprons were such a part of my world when I was growing up. On Sundays we always had company and my mother would lay out a spread of several meats vegetables and desserts. She would start cooking on Saturday night. She always, always had on apron similar to these in your post.

  19. Love all the pretty vintage aprons you shared today. My Mom, Grandmom and Great Grandma would never have thought to be in the kitchen without an apron! Sadly, I never wear one. My sister gave me a very pretty one for Christmas and I never remember to put it on. Happy VTT, Nan

  25. I always cook with an apron -'when I cook- it happens that my husband does most of it. I love the vintage aprons and sort of covet yours (so wrong I know). Maybe I'll luck out and find one or my sewing room will get cleaned out and I'll sew on - currently is packed with all the boxes from Christmas and they need to be moved to their storage place!
