The White Crepe Myrtle

"Large, long lasting clusters of snowy white crepe-like flowers at a time when few plants are in bloom."

The hardiest flowering plants I've found that work well in our hot and humid summers are the crepe myrtles.

They hold a special place in my childhood memories, too. I picked large bouquets of it from Grandmother's flower beds, and my playhouse always smelled so sweet.

So, when it came time to transplant flowers and trees from Grandmother's house in Dell to the farm, the old crepe myrtles were first on the list.

This one has grown into an absolutely beautiful bush
that will bloom all summer long.

  9. I wish the crepe myrtles were winter hardy to grow here. They have such a nice drooping branch of flowers that are perfect for a vase.
Your white ones look lovely in the pitcher.

  10. Such beautiful blooms... your plant very much reminds me of the lilacs that we can grow here... since we aren't blessed with the climate required for crepe myrtles...Larry

  13. I am excited to see your beautiful bush. I started 4 crepe myrtles a couple of years ago, and they are growing great. But here in Kansas, they usually die back to the ground and start over each year, so I won't be seeing anything like your bush, sure is heart-stopping!

  15. What a lovely flowering plant, and next to that red barn--perfect! I have never tried growing crepe myrtles--I think perhaps our climate is a bit too cold for them to thrive, so I will have to live vicariously through yours!

  18. Inspiring. I never thought to cut the blooms of our crepe myrtle. Yours made beautiful bouquets, reminiscent of lilacs. When ours bloom I am certainly picking a bouquet or two.

  26. I've never seen the white before. Just beautiful! Do you have a tip on how to make sure you don't bring any little guests (bugs) into your house? Seems like there's a lot of places to hide in these!
