Barn Charm--The Old Whistle Barn

On Highway 18 West from Dell, just before the Big Lake Wildlife Refuge, sat a barn on the old Whistle place. I went by there one morning on my way to a week's retreat in the Ozarks and snapped these photos. When I returned, the barn was merely a pile of lumber. The entire structure had been dismantled.

It was a good lesson for me--don't ever put off snapping a photo until tomorrow--because it just might be lost.

(I hope you'll indulge me--I photoshopped the print to give more of a painted quality to it. I love the texture and colors that resulted and thought I would share. . .)

That barn does have a lot of charm. Nice photo of it. It always makes me sad when a barn is torn down. Hopefully, they reused the wood.

What a shame. It really looks like with a little repair it would have been good for a few years more.
I like your post processing!

I know what you mean about waiting. I've done exactly that - waited too long.

Very nice processing her to make the barn look even more special than it already is.

I'm so glad you got these pictures! This winter I posted a shot of a barn near me, that was torn down last week. I was glad to have captured it before it was gone.
I like what you did in photoshop.

What a surprise you must have had to see that the barn had been dismantled. It's a good thing you took your photos on your way! Hopefully those old barn boards will get repurposed. Those old barns were build with some lovely wood. Nice photoshopping!

I'm glad you got a photo before the barn came down. I guess it's seen better days and sometimes it's safer to dismantle them before they fall down. Great photo and editing.

That's almost like learning that a friend you just met died! So sad!

It is a charming barn - SO glad you preserved it in photos before it disappeared! There was a wonderful tile barn in Missouri that I wanted to photograph when I visited there last year - the county had made them take it down because of some kind of drainage/contamination problem. I cannot find anyone who has a photo of it and I was VERY sad!

I'm glad you didn't wait to get the shots until the ride back, too... She's a beauty & glad you shared w/ us at Barn Charm... I've learned the hard way not to put off shooting...

I think the 2nd one looks more like a drawing, maybe, than a painting, esp in the trees...
they're both wonderful! =)
